Editorial Standards & Data Verification Protocols

Calculators are only as valuable as the integrity of their underlying formulas. When a player relies on a tool during a high-stakes Ascension run, an incorrect breakpoint formula can ruin hours of progress. This document establishes our rigorous data verification pipeline, patch invalidation protocols, and editorial independence.

1. The Four-Tier Data Verification Hierarchy

Unlike generic wiki aggregators that blindly copy hearsay or preliminary community datamines, STS2Calc subjects every formula to our Four-Tier Verification Pipeline before integrating it into an interactive tool:

01

Direct Game Telemetry

Values and formulas are verified against local client execution logs in the active Early Access build. We inspect combat event packets, damage calculations, and seed-generation trees.

02

Empirical Combat Replication

Mathematical models are stress-tested in controlled custom seeds. For example, our Doom Execution Calculator was tested against 100+ separate elite and boss encounters to verify boundary conditions at exact HP = Doom equality.

03

Cross-Desk Peer Review

Every new tool or strategy guide must be reviewed by at least two independent contributors—one mathematical modeller and one high-Ascension competitive climber.

04

Public Changelog Auditing

Any formula correction or balance tuning is publicly documented in our Patch Notes Log with diff notes explaining the mathematical adjustment.

2. Patch Invalidation Protocol

Because Slay the Spire 2 is actively updated in Steam Early Access, balance adjustments frequently modify card energy costs, base damage numbers, and status interaction rules. Our rapid-response invalidation workflow proceeds as follows:

  1. Triage Within 6 Hours: Upon the release of an official Steam patch, our desk parses official patch notes against our local formula repository.
  2. Banner Quarantine: If a balance change alters an underlying formula (such as No Escape doom scaling or Osty resurrection cost), the affected calculator is immediately marked with a visible "Under Calibration" warning banner.
  3. Live Re-verification & Deployment: Re-tested formulas are pushed to production within 24 to 48 hours, with explicit version tags (e.g. "Verified for Early Access v0.110").

3. Separation of Editorial Opinion and Deterministic Math

We maintain strict boundaries between Deterministic Math and Strategic Heuristics:

  • Deterministic Math: Pure probabilistic equations (such as hypergeometric draw odds, triangular poison decay, and multiplayer HP multipliers). These are mathematically indisputable facts derived from game code.
  • Strategic Heuristics: Card tier valuations, campfire risk recommendations, and deck-thinning advice. These represent analytical assessments authored by our editorial staff and are clearly labeled as expert recommendations rather than immutable laws.

4. Independent Fan-Made Operation & IP Boundaries

STS2Calc is an independent fan publication. We are not owned, operated, or endorsed by Mega Crit Games or Steam. All game titles, character names, card art descriptions, and related intellectual property belong exclusively to Mega Crit Games. Our content constitutes fair-use mathematical commentary, strategic analysis, and educational tools designed to support the global Slay the Spire player community.

5. Corrections & Errata Reporting

We welcome peer review from the competitive community. If you discover a numerical discrepancy, edge-case rounding error, or relic trigger order anomaly, please reach out to our desk via our contact form or email support@sts2calc.com. Confirmed errata are corrected within 48 hours and acknowledged in our public changelog.
